*From September 4 to mid-December 2008, the IMAX® Dome Theater at the Reuben H. Fleet Science Center will be dark for extensive renovations and technology upgrades. IMAX film presentations will resume in January 2009, with a virtually seamless dome screen, a 16,000-watt digital sound system, more comfortable seating and many other enhancements. While we await these exciting changes, please join us in the Community Forum for a film screening directly following our Afternoon Scholars lecture.

Afternoon Scholars: A Lecture Series for Adults
Join scientists from around the county to learn about a variety of topics as they share the latest information in a friendly and exciting environment. Come early or stay after the talk to enjoy complimentary refreshments. Each lecture takes place in the William and Grayson Boehm Community Forum from 12:30 – 2:00 p.m.
September 1 – no lecture
October 6 – Senses & Your Abilities
Artist, educator, chemist and author Dr. Edgar E. Hardy joins us to share how enhancing the senses can improve your overall wellbeing. Get in touch with your "sense-abilities" and learn about the amazing processes going on throughout your body each time you smell coffee or touch a silk shirt. You're invited to stay after the talk for a book signing and film screening in the Community Forum.
November 3 – Evolution: The Nature of Science
Dr. Brian Paegel from The Scripps Research Institute will visit us to present an intriguing lecture exploring the role of evolution in science. Join us after the talk for a viewing of Flock of Dodos, an 85-minute documentary focusing on the controversy of evolution versus intelligent design.
December 1 – Climate Change
Learn about the worldwide impact of global warming and join in a discussion about local consequences. Stay after the talk to view the film GLOBAL WARMING. This is an extremely "hot" topic you won't want to miss!
