We’re 14,600 days old … but who’s counting?! Oh, that’s right—we are! We invite YOU to join our year-long anniversary celebration. We’ll bring a blockbuster exhibition, incredible events and dynamic educational experiences to San Diego in the coming months to celebrate our forty years of interactive science education.
The Reuben H. Fleet Science Center opened in 1973, bringing hands-on exhibits and the world’s first IMAX® Dome Theater to San Diego. Today, more than 400,000 visitors each year visit the Fleet to discover our 100+ hands-on exhibits for all ages and enjoy incredible IMAX films and planetarium shows in the recently renovated Heikoff Giant Dome Theater. Our staff and volunteers are dedicated to connecting individuals to science and technology, and we look forward to our next four decades of inspiring lifelong learning.

Saturday, March 9The Reuben H. Fleet Science Center’s 40th Birthday Celebration. Enjoy discounted admission, giveaways and, of course, cake! All day long, enjoy 40% off admission prices. The first 500 folks to the Fleet get tickets for a gift in the North Star Science Store and mini-cupcakes, which will be served starting at 1:30 p.m. Thank you for celebrating 40 years of science learning fun with us! The premiere of the new IMAX film, Rocky Mountain Express. The film will show daily, starting March 9. |
Thursday, March 14Pi Day. A daytime celebration of 3.14 on 3/14! Science on the Rocks—Pizza, Pinot and Pi! Enjoy pi(e)s of all kinds at this excellent event for fun-loving folks 21+. |
Saturday, March 16Science Family Day in Balboa Park. Kick off the San Diego Festival of Science and Engineering, of which the Fleet is a proud silver sponsor. The Balboa Park celebration brings discounts to museums (including the Fleet!) and activities on the Prado and within the institutions. Exhibit opening: Origins of Life. Science and art combine in this new exhibit. The famous experiments carried out by Stanley Miller and Harold Urey in the 1950s are reimagined as a functional art installation that you can see at the Fleet today through June 9, 2013. |
