General Job Description:
****THIS IS A SEASONAL AT-WILL PART TIME POSITION THAT WILL END APPROXIMATELY JANUARY 14, 2013****
MUST BE AVAILABLE TO WORK UNTIL THE APPROXIMATE END DATE OF THE POSITION: JANUARY 14, 2012. MUST ALSO BE AVAILABLE TO WORK A SCHEDULE that WILL INCLUDE WEEKENDS, EVENINGS AND HOLIDAYS. SOME LATE NIGHT, EARLY MORNING AND OCCASSIONAL OVERNIGHT SHIFTS MAY BE REQUIRED based upon special events and business needs.
Our Guest Services Associates (Cashier) are to many the first person that a guest will meet while visiting the Science Center and therefore GSAs have a huge impact on guest perceptions and impressions of our organization. As a GSA you will provide friendly, fast and accurate processing of guest related transactions including, but not limited to; sales and comp transactions, refunds, and membership requests. You will also ensure guest concerns and needs are being met upon their arrival. You will also assist in achievement of department sales and guest care goals by ensuring each customer understands and receives the best ticket or membership products that meet their unique personal needs. We expect all GSAs to be outgoing and greet guests cheerfully and respectfully and that they will answer questions and provide information about the Fleet as well as Balboa Park politely and accurately thus leaving our guests with a positive perception of our institution.

Basic Selection Factors:
To be considered qualified for the job; applicants should meet these basic selection factors:
- Six months prior cash handling experience required. One year cash handling experience preferred.
- Prior customer service experience in a retail, entertainment attraction, or cultural institution preferred.
- Must possess strong communication skills (verbal and written).
- Must possess a professional, positive, “can-do” demeanor and be able to adapt to ever changing conditions while exhibiting
- exceptional interpersonal skills and diplomacy with guests and co-workers.
- Proven experience handling customer service issues/questions in a professional, timely, and efficient manner.
- Strong basic mathematical skills required for cash handling and reconciliation
- Ability to count change and balance a cash drawer accurately.
- Ability to handle confidential information in a professional manner
- Ability to organize time effectively and manage a large number of tasks simultaneously
- Availability to work nights, weekends, and holidays
- Knowledge of Balboa Park, San Diego attractions, and the Reuben H. Fleet Science Center extremely helpful.
- Basic computer skills are required; knowledge of computerized ticketing system a plus.
- Can utilize good judgment when making decisions.
- Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
- Bilingual fluency in English and Spanish desirable.
Please note final applicants may be tested on their Microsoft Office computer skills and may be asked to demonstrate writing, proofreading and mathematical skills.
Physical/Mental Requirements:
To be considered for the job, applicants must be able to perform with reasonable accommodation, all physical & mental requirements of the position.
Medium Work: Position involves sitting some of the time. Standing and walking are required. Position requires ability to exert minimal force of up to 10 pounds occasionally and minimal force to carry, lift, push, and otherwise move objects frequently.
