SAN DIEGO (June 12, 2014)—The Reuben H. Fleet Science Center and the World Champion of Magic, Jason Latimer, have teamed up to produce “Perception: See Beyond the Illusion,” a one-of-a-kind show that combines magic and science to create effects that no one thought could ever exist. “Perception: See Beyond the Illusion” starts July 5 and goes through August 31 with two shows every Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 3:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. Viewers will experience effects such as shaping water, bending light, walking through solid objects, gravity-defying liquids and countless other illusions all rooted in applied science.

“The world was not shaped by its answers, it was shaped by its questions—and that next question could come from any of us,” said Latimer. “All the effects in the show were considered impossible at one time. They were just impossible situations with no solutions until one person questioned, until one person wondered beyond their answers. Whether it’s an illusion or not, the right question changes everything.”

“Perception: See Beyond the Illusion” combines Jason’s illusion performances with physics, psychology, chemistry, mathematics and technology. Visitors will also get to experience ILLUSION: Nothing Is As It Seems, the mind-bending new exhibition that is making its North American debut at the Reuben H. Fleet Science Center. ILLUSION combines science and art to deceive the visitor through optical, perceptual and audio illusions and shows that what we perceive is often radically different from the reality of what we observe.

“Jason’s show is an exciting addition this summer that will be sure to entertain and enlighten audiences,” said Dr. Steven Snyder, executive director of the Reuben H. Fleet Science Center. “We hope this show, along with the ILLUSION exhibition, will remind all ages to never stop questioning what is real and what is possible.”
