Master's
Degree Strand
*The deadline for this portion of the ILP program has past.
This strand
of the program was specifically designed for teachers who would
like to expand their content knowledge in mathematics and science
as well as their pedagogical understanding of inquiry-based learning
while concurrently earning a Master's degree in Mathematics, Science
and Technology Education at the University of San Diego. This strand
may include teachers new to the Fleet Inquiry Institute as well
as those who have already participated in the Fleet Inquiry Institute.
Requirements
Candidates
must
- Have applied and be accepted into the graduate school at the University
of San Diego.
- Be assigned to a 4th-8th grade classroom for the 2005-2006
school year.
- Have school administration complete commitment form.
- Complete Teacher Commitment Form.
- Teach in Chula Vista Elementary School District or Lemon Grove
School District.
Benefits
Participants will receive
- A reduced USD tuition rate ($8,550 total tuition for required
30 units of coursework; standard cost $29,700).
- A week of professional development in math and science inquiry
during the summer of 2005 (3 units USD credit).
- Additional professional development through pedagogical and
University of San Diego-led content workshops over the subsequent
school year (6 units USD credit).
- ILP staff support in their classroom.
- Assisted access to science kits and materials.
- Release time for peer coaching or observation.
- An invitation to a Family Science Day at the Reuben H. Fleet
Science Center.
- USD coursework including:
- Cognition and Development (3 units)
- Social Foundations (3 units)
- Research Methods (3 units)
- Contemporary Issues, Trends and Research in Science/Math/Technology
(3 units)
- Curriculum Design and Evaluation (3 units)
- Specialty Course in Discipline (3 units)
- Master's Capstone Seminar (3 units)
