Our Fleet Inquiry Institute program is drawing to a close. If you are interested in joining us for more inquiry opportunities, please explore our newly funded California Mathematics and Science Partnership (CaMSP) project, the Inquiry Learning Partnership.

Fleet Inquiry Institute

The Fleet Inquiry Institute (FII) is an ongoing professional development program that supports teachers as they incorporate inquiry learning pedagogy into their classroom work with children.

Participants begin FII with a five-day summer institute where they experience the transition from structured, hands-on teaching approaches to more open-ended, inquiry-based strategies to teaching science. The FII summer institute includes exploration of basic principles in questioning techniques, process skill development, and learning through investigation.

During the school year, FII participants attend the Saturday Workshop Series to enrich their understanding of the inquiry process through formative assessment, science notebooking, and adapting curriculum toward student controlled learning.

FII staff provides classroom support to participants during the school year and development through a collaborative network of teachers and staff.
