ANIMALOPOLIS

Singing lions, bears that waltz, sea lions turning somersaults. Otters pray, flamingos squawk, a calf who’d rather dance than walk. They’re all the “stars” in ANIMALOPOLIS, a uniquely entertaining film for IMAX theaters that has been developed for a very broad audience that includes children as young as three years old.

ANIMALOPOLIS will take audiences on a whimsical voyage into the magical world of animals. With 12 hilarious segments, each featuring a different animal, ANIMALOPOLIS will appeal to young children as well as the young at heart. Whether going nose to nose with hippos as they graze upon nature's massive salad bar, or eye to eye with dancing bears and sea lions turning somersaults, we are reminded that nature provides us with humor and wonder everywhere. ANIMALOPOLIS takes a lighthearted and imaginary look at a variety of animals including cheetahs that race like a Ferrari, bears that run their own fishing school, an operatic lion, and many more.

Directed by award-winning Tim Huntley, and produced by Graphic Films' Paul Novros, ANIMALOPOLIS breaks new ground as an IMAX theater documentary balancing the cinematic interests of the entire family. Prior efforts have been geared for audiences as young as six or seven years of age, but pre-release screenings of the film have shown a strong response from even tiny tots in the audience. Although it was specifically edited to maintain the attention of young viewers, pre-release screenings also delivered positive pre-teen, teen, and adult responses.

ANIMALOPOLIS is a Seussian-styled treatment done in rhyme and verse with a humorous tone, while concentrating on real-world activities affecting selected animals. The movie blends fun, interesting vignettes with the appropriate educational overlays that form the core of the genre's attraction.

A teacher's guide has been created by Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo to accompany the film's release. The guide, which can be downloaded from the film's Web site at http://animalopolisfilm.com provides teachers and parents with a way to extend educational aspects of the film's subject matter into the home or classroom. Fact cards on each of the film's 14 featured animals can also be downloaded at the Web site.

Huntley, the film's director, is an Academy Award winner for "Up," a live action short, and has also received an Emmy® Award and three additional Emmy nominations. Novros, the producer, has been nominated for an Academy Award for ALASKA, Spirit of the Wild, one of the most successful IMAX theater films on record. He has also participated in the production of four other Academy Award nominated films.
