Going for Gold(berg)!

Saturday, December 12, 2020
11 a.m.–3 p.m.

The Fleet Science Center, in partnership with the San Diego Engineering Council, will host San Diego’s first-ever Rube Goldberg Machine Contest on December 12, 2020.

The Rube Goldberg Machine Contest is an event where students ages 11 to 18 showcase machines that they have imagined, designed and created to perform a simple task. This year’s task to be announced April 5, 2020.

This fun competition will encourage teamwork and out-of-the-box problem solving, in a fresh learning environment and on a level playing field. All one needs is a good imagination and a pile of junk!

Registration opens May 18, 2020 at

First and second place winners at the Fleet will be eligible to participate in the Rube Goldberg Machine Contest Finals held 2021.

The public will be able to see the contraptions during the December 12 competition, included with admission to the Fleet that day.
