Science Communication

Science Communication Trainings are interactive, hands-on professional development opportunities for science and engineering professionals. These sessions enhance communication within teams and with external audiences to improve understanding of current scientific research.

The Fleet Science Center offers sessions throughout San Diego County. Sessions can be customized and are offered any day of the week.

To book a training or to learn more about science communication sessions, contact us by e-mail or call (619) 685-5722

Possible Science Communication Training Outcomes

  • Learn and practice strategies that assist professionals in communicating complex science concepts to non-science audiences.
  • Support professionals in the development of meaningful and relevant messaging related to their work.

Two Scientists Walk Into a Bar Suds & Science

BE WiSE

BE WiSE (Better Education for Women in Science and Engineering) stimulates and sustains girls’ interest in science through engaging hand-on activities at science career sites. As a scientist, you can connect with girls as female scientist role-models and/or host a workshop at your own institution.

Two Scientists Walk Into a Bar®

During Two Scientists Walk Into a Bar®, you will be paired with a fellow scientist or engineer. You are given a sign that reads: "We are scientists. Ask us anything!" and encouragement to engage the patrons in a friendly informal conversation--on science, or anything else!

Suds & Science

Sometimes the most interesting discussions occur over a beer or a glass of your favorite vino. That’s the concept behind Suds & Science, a monthly event that brings you, the scientist, face-to-face with the general public in a neighborhood bar. Scientist talks are kept brief and ample time is dedicated to Q&A.
