Summer Camp Confirmation

Thank you for choosing the Fleet Science Center for summer camps! We’re excited to meet your camper(s) and have a fun and educational time. Please read the information below carefully, as it relates to our camp policies and procedures.  In order for your camper to enter camp, we will need all of the registration information filled out in its entirety. Please give us a call at (619) 238-1233 ext. 847 if you have any questions.

Pick-up/Drop-off

For your convenience, we offer curbside drop-off and pick-up for your camper(s). The drop-off and pick-up area is located at the Business Entrance on the south side of the building, adjacent to the parking lot. To get to the South entrance from Park Boulevard, turn on Space Theater Way and make an immediate right into the parking lot adjacent to the building. The Fleet Science Center is located at 1875 El Prado, San Diego, CA 92101.

Drop-off starts 15-minutes before the scheduled program. Please note that we do not offer early or late care at this time. We will not accept campers earlier than 15-minutes before the start of the program and we do have a late pick-up fee (please refer to Late Policies for specific details). Your camper will be checked-in and brought into the classroom by a Fleet volunteer or staff member. For safety reasons, parents/guardians/authorized pick-up person must present a photo ID at pick-up every day. If you have a last minute addition to the pick-up list that you wish to add, please call (619) 238-1233 ext. 847. If you are dropping your camper off later or have to pick-up a camper early, please enter through the Business Entrance and see the Receptionist.

  • Children must be dropped off no earlier than 15 minutes before the start of the class.
  • For safety reasons, parents/guardians must present ID at pick up every day.
  • The pick-up / drop-off location is along the sidewalk adjacent to the South side of the building.
  • To get to the South entrance from Park Boulevard, turn on Space Theater Way and make an immediate right into the parking lot adjacent to the building.
  • Please pick up your child promptly at the end of class. See our late policy below.

Late Pick-up

Pick-up later than 15 minutes after the camp's end time will incur a $25 fee. For every 30 minutes after that time, an additional $25 fee will added. If you are late more than twice, your child may not be allowed back to class and there will be no refund. If you are going to be late picking up or dropping off a child, please notify the Science Center in advance so we can make arrangements as needed. Please call (619) 238-1233 ext. 806.

Snack/Lunch

If your camper is staying with us for a full-day camp (9am-4pm), or is participating in the Balboa Park Collaborative, please pack a lunch for your camper. Lunches are not provided at the Science Center. A daily snack is also recommended for half-day and full-day camps.

  • A daily snack is recommended for half-day and full-day camps.
  • If your camper is staying with us for a full-day camp, you must pack a daily lunch for your child.
  • The Fleet Science Center will be responsible for supervising an hour lunch each day for full-day campers.
  • We ask that you consider choosing snacks and lunches that do not contain peanuts or tree nuts when packing a snack or lunch for your child. We will be sending allergy email notices before camp starts informing caretakers of food items that affect campers with severe allergies. These emails are recommendations only; please feel free to prepare any snacks or lunches that you feel fit for your camper.

POLICIES

Cancellations:

  • Cancellations made at least 10 days before the start of the camp will receive a refund except for a $25 cancellation fee.
  • Cancellations made within 10 days of the camp will receive no refund; this includes unforeseen circumstances.
  • Changes to reservations (e.g. switching camps) will incur a $15 service fee per camp.
  • Camp cancellations and changes will not be honored over the weekends or without talking to Client Services. Client Services is available Monday–Friday, 8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m.

Behavior:

  • Please review the following established classroom rules with your child before camp:
  • Our classes have been developed to encourage imaginative, creative and energetic exploration. However, appropriate conduct is expected in our classes.
  • Be respectful. Students must be respectful of our instructors, other Fleet staff, fellow campers and property belonging to the Fleet.
  • Be cooperative. Many of the activities that students participate in will require that they are considerate of their fellow students. Summer camp classes are a great way to make friends!
  • Be clean. We often hold more than one class per day in the same room. Students will be asked to help us keep our area clean (after we have fun making a mess of course).
  • Be curious and creative. The most important guideline.
  • We reserve the right to dismiss children whose behavior disrupts the class environment, especially those who engage in physical aggression or other dangerous behavior or for other violations of policies from the program without refund.

We welcome all children to our educational programs at the Fleet Science Center.  In order to assist us in providing a safe and fun learning environment for your child, please provide us with any necessary medical and/or behavioral information regarding your child. This includes food and/or other allergies.  This information will be maintained in a confidential file by our Education Department and will only be used by the Fleet on an as needed basis.

Balboa Park Collaboration Camps

Many Park institutions offer collaborative programs, combining two half-day camps at two different institutions into a full-day of camps. A supervised lunch and escort to the second location create a special Balboa Park experience.

Institutions involved in the Balboa Park Collaborative include: San Diego Air & Space Museum, San Diego Youth Ballet, Japanese Friendship Garden, San Diego Model Railroad Museum, San Diego Art Museum, Spanish Village Art Center and the Fleet Science Center.

This information is required from all participants in order to provide proper supervision during the lunch hour and escorts to other camps.

By selecting that your child is not participating in any other Balboa Park Collaboration programs, you acknowledge that you will pick-up and drop-off your child and that he/she will not require any additional escorts/supervision.
