Dr. Erin Sundermann is a cognitive neuroscientist and Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at UCSD. Her research focuses on sex differences and the discovery of sex-specific biomarkers and risk factors for Alzheimer's disease as well as the manifestation of Alzheimer's disease in the context of HIV.

The Role of Sex/Gender & Lifestyle on Alzheimer's Disease Risk

Women represent two-thirds of Alzheimer’s disease cases and tend to show greater Alzheimer’s-related brain changes. Researchers from the UCSD Women Inflammation and Tau Study (WITS) will discuss sex differences in Alzheimer's disease and emerging research on how biological factors such as hormones and inflammation, as well as lifestyle factors, may modify the risk for Alzheimer's disease.
