Community

The Fleet Science Center is devoted to building and supporting communities rich in science learning, throughout the entire San Diego region. The Fleet sparks passion, fosters interest and inspires the greater San Diego community through the lens of science and technology, so that everyone deepens their appreciation and passion for science.

52 Weeks of Science

The Fleet Science Center is passionately focused on facilitating a network of existing scientific organizations in local communities to foster collaborations within neighborhoods. 52 Weeks of Science brings researchers, engineers and scientists to local neighborhoods in order to share the wonders of science with people where they live, work and play. Additionally, 52 Weeks of Science is a great platform for local organizations to build relationships and work together to reach common goals. Learn more about 52 Weeks of Science.

BE WiSE

Better Education for Women in Science and Engineering (BE WiSE) engages young women in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) learning experiences in collaboration with San Diego's corporations and research and academic institutions. Each year, BE WiSE invites girls in grades 7 and 8 to Science Overnights to explore their interest in science. Once they are members of BE WiSE, the girls attend events throughout the year to strengthen their interest in science. They're encouraged to choose more courses in science and math and they meet adult women scientists who share their knowledge, passion and career experiences. Learn more about BE WiSE.

High Tech Fair

High Tech Fair excites and inspires middle school and high school students through hands-on demonstrations provided by professionals in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) fields. The fair includes a Student/Parent Night and a School Day event. High Tech Fair has a long history in San Diego and has grown to include 50+ exhibitors and over 2,500 students in attendance. San Diego STEM Ecosystem

In 2015 San Diego was selected for the inaugural cohort of the National STEM Ecosystem Initiative. This effort empowers communities to bring together local partners and create systemic change to ensure all learners develop the STEM knowledge and skills they need to learn and thrive in today’s world. San Diego’s participation in this national community of practice brings access to resources and expertise that will be vital in developing a thriving STEM ecosystem in the San Diego region.
